  3. Submit preferences for qualifying events.

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Explore

Ready to participate in a BIOGLOW™ Founders Edition Explore Festival? Follow these steps to register and participate in a local event.

Step 1: Complete FIRST® HQ Registration

All new and returning FIRST LEGO League Explore teams must complete the annual registration through FIRST HQ.

Season Registration includes an official team number, one BIOGLOW™ Founders Edition Explore Set, and digital access to the Team Meeting Guide and Engineering Notebook. Season registration does not include participation in an official Texas Explore Festival or a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential Set.

FIRST LEGO League Explore Season Registration: $150 per team

Step 2: Pay the Festival Event Fee

Explore teams may register for one or more local Texas FLL Explore Festival. The fee includes entry to one noncompetitive festival where teams share their model and team poster, participate in activities, and celebrate what they learned during the season.

Texas FLL Explore Festival Event Fee: $80 per festival

Teams may register and pay to participate in more than one festival. Explore Festivals do not lead to Regional or State Championship advancement.

Festival dates and registration instructions will be shared as regional event calendars are finalized.

Panhandle Teams: No fee will be charged for a festival managed by Texas Tech University

West Texas Teams in El Paso: Founders Edition Explore teams competing in the West Texas–El Paso region have a separate local registration process managed by The University of Texas at El Paso.

FIRST LEGO LEAGUE Challenge

Are you a Challenge team ready to participate in FIRST LEGO League BIOGLOW™ Founder’s Edition season? Follow these steps to register and participate in a local event.

Step 1: Complete FIRST HQ Registration

All new and returning FIRST LEGO League Challenge teams must complete their annual Season registration directly with FIRST HQ.

Season registration includes an official team number, access to digital season materials, and the ability to purchase the BIOGLOW™ Founders Edition Challenge Set. Season registration does not include participation in an official Texas event or a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime Set.

Season Registration: $285 per team

Step 2: Pay the Qualifying Event Fee

Teams participating in Central, East, North, Panhandle, or South Texas must pay a Texas Qualifying Event Fee in addition to their FIRST HQ season registration. The fee covers entry to one Qualifier, including Robot Game matches and judging for Robot Design, the Innovation Project, and Core Values.

FLL Texas Qualifying Event Fee:

  • Central, North & South Regions: $175

  • East Region supported by Kids Robotic Foundation: $125

  • Panhandle Region supported by Texas Tech University: $45

Qualifying Event Fees will be paid on the FIRST Storefront and vary by region depending on regional partnerships that offset event expenses. More information on local event fees will be shared in September.

Important Information for West Texas Teams in El Paso

Founders Edition Challenge teams competing in the West Texas–El Paso region have a separate local registration process managed by The University of Texas at El Paso. Teams advancing from El Paso to the Texas State Championship will receive separate State Championship registration and payment instructions from FIRST Texas.

Step 3: Select your Qualifying Event

Once each regional event calendar is finalized, the Regional Program Administrator (formerly known as PDP) will contact teams with instructions for submitting event preferences.

The selection and placement process may vary by region based on event locations, available dates, and event capacity. Teams should watch for email and regional communications with available event options, instructions, and deadlines.

Planning for Advancement Fees

Depending on the region and event, teams that advance beyond their initial qualifying competition may need to complete an additional registration and pay an advancing event fee.

Teams can review the costs associated with Regional Championships and other advancing events in the fee breakdown below. Additional information about Texas competition pathways, event types, and advancement opportunities is available on the FIRST LEGO League Advancement page.

Teams are also invited to apply for a team grant to cover additional advancement fees.

FIRST LEGO League Future Edition

Are you looking to participate in a FIRST LEGO League BIOGLOW™ Future Edition event? Follow these steps to register and participate in a local event.

Step 1: Complete FIRST HQ Registration

Future Edition registration is available for three grade bands:

  • Grades K–2

  • Grades 3–5

  • Grades 6–8

Each grade band offers 8-student and 24-student registration options. Teams should select the grade band and group size that best fits their students.

FIRST HQ registration provides official team number or numbers and access to applicable program resources. Required LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI hardware, Annual Sets, and participation in an official event are purchased or registered for separately.

Season Registration: $250 - 285 per team

Step 2: Pay the Event Fee

FIRST Texas is currently planning a statewide Future Edition event in Temple, Texas. Registration for this event is not yet available.

Once plans are finalized, we will share:

  • The event date and location

  • The Texas event participation fee

  • Event capacity and eligibility information

  • Instructions and deadlines for registration

Event information will be added to this page and shared through FIRST Texas communications as soon as it is available.

FLL Fees and Pricing Structure

Depending on the edition and events selected, Texas teams may encounter three types of fees:

  1. HQ season registration: Paid to FIRST by every team.

  2. Texas event fees: Support participation in a local Explore Festival, FLL Challenge Qualifier, or FLL Future Edition event.

  3. Advancing event fees: Paid when an FLL Challenge Founder’s Edition team advances to and chooses to attend a Regional Championship or the Texas State Championship.

The fee table below outlines each fee, what it includes, and when it applies.

A Change to FIRST LEGO League Event Fees

For the 2026–2027 season, FIRST Texas has lowered the initial Texas qualifying event fee for all FIRST LEGO League Challenge teams.

Previously, every team paid one flat Texas fee regardless of team advancement. After review and feedback from teams, we have lowered the initial Texas event fee and separated the costs of Regional and State Championship events.

We also know that planning ahead does not make every new cost easy to absorb. To help teams navigate this change, FIRST Texas has grant funding available for the 2026–2027 season to help offset Regional and State Championship fees.

If advancing-event fees would be a challenge for your team, we encourage you to complete the application below. You only need to apply once.

Through our transition to FIRST, the team grant application is now simpler and only requires a short form to be considered for any FIRST Texas team grants. Teams that may need financial assistance are encouraged to apply.
