How FIRST Tech Challenge Works in Texas
One statewide program, supported regionally
FIRST Tech Challenge in Texas is organized through five geographic regions: North, Central, East, South, and West & Panhandle. Each region connects teams with local events, communications, and program support.
Competition structures may differ by region. Depending on where a team is located, it may participate through a league, qualifying tournament, or another regional competition model. These regional systems provide pathways to Regional Championships and additional postseason opportunities.

The 2026–2027 FIRST Tech Challenge season is part of FIRST CANOPY™, a biodiversity-themed robotics season. In BIOBUZZ™ presented by RTX, teams will design, build, and program robots to take on a new challenge inspired by the energy and connections found throughout the natural world. The season includes team registration, kickoff, robot development, volunteer training, qualifying competition, Regional Championships, and postseason events. The calendar below provides a statewide overview of major activities and expected timeframes.

Important: East Region FIRST Leadership Award Process
The FIRST Leadership Award dates and interview process shown in this calendar apply to teams in the Central, North, South, and West & Panhandle regions.
The East Region uses a separate process administered by San Jacinto College. East Region coaches should watch for direct communication from San Jacinto College regarding nomination requirements, deadlines, interview scheduling, and other instructions.
