FLL Future Edition: Texas Event Plans and Waitlists

We are working to provide two FIRST LEGO® League Future Edition events in Texas this season: January 23 in Temple and February 6 in Friendswood. Both events are planned to serve teams statewide, with regional considerations taken into account when assigning teams.

Waitlists are open now for teams to express interest in their preferred event. Capacity is still being determined, and we cannot guarantee placement for every interested team. We expect to share capacity updates and begin assigning teams by mid-November.

This update explains the planned events, how to join a waitlist, and what teams should know about payment and advancement while details are being finalized.

Registration, Payment, and Event Placement Are Separate

Our registration guides describe three parts of participating in Texas events: FIRST HQ season registration, the Texas qualifying event fee, and event placement. These are handled separately, and completing registration or paying a fee does not guarantee an event spot.

Because Future Edition capacity is still being determined, the action we are asking teams to take now is to join an event waitlist to express interest. We are not asking teams to complete registration or make a payment to request consideration for placement.

Please hold off on paying the Texas qualifying event fee. We will provide payment guidance as event assignments are confirmed.

Planned Future Edition Events

January 23, 2027Temple
February 6, 2027Friendswood

Both events are open to interest from teams across Texas. Regional considerations will help inform assignments as we review demand and available space.

We are working to determine how many teams each event can accommodate. Our hope is to provide enough slots for interested teams, but we cannot guarantee placement for everyone and are unable to offer additional events at this time.

Visit the FIRST Texas Events page for current event details.

Join a Waitlist to Express Interest

Teams can join an event waitlist through firsttx.org

  1. Sign in to your account on the FIRST Texas website.
  2. Find your preferred Future Edition event on the Events page.
  3. Follow the event selection process to add your team to its waitlist.

For instructions on signing in, selecting events, and how waitlists work, visit the FIRST Texas Help Center.

Joining a waitlist helps us understand team interest and preferred locations as we finalize event capacity.

Joining a waitlist is an expression of interest, not a confirmed event placement. We expect to share capacity updates and begin assigning teams by mid-November.

Please Hold Off on Texas Event Fee Payment

Please do not purchase the Texas qualifying event fee yet.

Although the Future Edition fee is available in the FIRST Storefront, payment and event assignment are handled through separate systems. We do not currently have a consistent way to guarantee placement for teams that purchase the fee.

We want teams to have clearer information about their event placement before making this payment. Our planned Texas qualifying event fee deadline is January 1, 2027, for teams with confirmed assignments. We will provide payment guidance as placements are finalized.

Advancement Opportunities Are Still Being Determined

Texas may get at least one advancement slot to a global competition, but this has not been confirmed.

This expectation is for Texas as a whole, rather than one slot per event. We cannot yet guarantee advancement opportunities or explain how slots will be allocated between the two events.

We will share those details when they are confirmed.

Consider a Local Scrimmage

We recognize that travel to Temple or Friendswood may be difficult for some teams and that uncertainty about placement and advancement can make planning challenging.

If the available events do not work for your team, we encourage you to consider organizing a local scrimmage. Connecting with nearby teams, schools, or organizations can give students an opportunity to run their robots, share their work, and celebrate the season closer to home.

What Happens Next

For now, join the waitlist for your preferred event and hold off on paying the Texas qualifying event fee.

We expect to share capacity updates and begin assigning teams by mid-November, with additional payment and advancement guidance as details are confirmed.
