Welcome to the 2026–2027 FIRST® LEGO® League Season

The 2026–2027 FIRST® LEGO® League season is BIOGLOW™, part of the biodiversity-themed FIRST® CANOPY™ season.

For nearly three decades, FIRST and LEGO Education have partnered to deliver FIRST LEGO League and introduce millions of young people to STEM through hands-on learning, teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving. The 2026-2027 FIRST LEGO League season, BIOGLOW™, will be the final season of the program and include two editions: Founders Edition and Future Edition.

BIOGLOW™ Founders Edition

FIRST LEGO League Explore and Challenge teams will participate in a game experience using LEGO Education SPIKE™ technology. Students in Challenge will apply the STEM skills they have learned to friendly competition. They will program a robot to autonomously complete missions against a playing field during two-and-a-half minute matches.  They will also explore the biodiversity theme in the game and Innovation Project.

BIOGLOW™ Future Edition

FIRST LEGO League teams participate in a game experience centered around biodiversity, using LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI kits. Teams will collaborate to build and code wireless hardware to advance their skills and solve mission in this new interactive alliance-based game across the mat during the two-and-a-half minute matches. Through their Innovation Project, they will dig deeper and learn more about biodiversity and how the balance between nature and humans keeps our world healthy.

Due to projected team counts, the Texas season will primarily focus on the BIOGLOW™ Founders Edition, including offering Explore and Challenge events similar to last season. We anticipate offering at least one Future Edition event, currently planned for Temple, Texas. We will continue to evaluate if additional Future Edition events need to be added in other parts of Texas.

What does FLL look like in Texas?

FIRST LEGO League in Texas is organized through six regions: North, Central, East, South, West, and Panhandle. Each region connects teams with local events, communications, and support.

The West Region is managed by the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) and has different schedules, registration information, and other differences from FIRST Texas regions. Click here for more details. 

While event schedules, locations, and available editions may vary by region, the overall Founders Edition season includes kickoff, team preparation, Challenge qualifying events, Regional Championships, statewide and postseason opportunities, and Explore events. We expect to have more detailed information on local events for teams in September. 

How will registration work?

FIRST LEGO League teams in Texas complete two separate registrations during the season:

1. Complete FIRST season registration

All new and returning teams must first register nationally with FIRST. This establishes the team for the 2026–2027 season and provides access to season materials and resources.

Current Founders Edition season registration pricing is:

• FIRST LEGO League Explore Founders Edition: $150

• FIRST LEGO League Challenge Founders Edition: $285

Future Edition pricing and registration information is available through FIRST.

Teams can complete national registration now. They do not need to wait for Texas event registration to open.

2. Texas event registration

Teams will also complete a separate registration process for the Texas events in which they will participate.

For Founders Edition Challenge teams, this registration secures a place in the team’s qualifier event. Explore and Future Edition event registration may follow a different process based on the type and location of the event.

How does advancement work?

The Founders Edition advancement pathway applies to eligible FIRST LEGO League Challenge teams.

Teams begin at a qualifying tournament within their assigned region. Eligible teams may then advance through the following pathway:

Each team may compete in one official qualifier and must compete within its assigned region. Advancement slots are allocated based on the number of eligible teams participating in each region and event.

Explore teams participate in festivals and celebrations but do not advance through this competitive pathway. Future Edition event and advancement information will be shared separately as those opportunities are finalized.

We are currently working to finalize the date, location, structure, and other details for the 2026–2027 Texas State Championship. Additional information will be shared as soon as it is confirmed.
